Beeping Bush specialises in offering digital filmmaking workshops for young and disadvantaged youths; conducted either at our premises, The Community Pharmacy Gallery, or via outreach across Kent & Medway.
This practical Introduction to Digital Filmmaking workshop can run from 2 hours to a full day’s motivational team-building film exercise.
All aspects of single camera filming techniques are covered, from story boarding to sound & lighting principles, and can be tailored, so young filmmakers can chose either Drama or Documentary. Typical age ranges are 10-18 and for between 4 and 12 participants.
Beeping Bush supplies full DVD camera/sound and lighting kits per 4-6 students. Students will alternate their crew roles throughout the day: Camera Operator, Sound Boom Operator, Researcher, Interviewer and Director.
The morning session consists of viewing and discussions of previously produced youth films, to identify various filming styles and techniques. Then you have the chance to ‘get your hands dirty’ with practical ‘hands on’ camera, sound, and lighting training.
The afternoon will be spent on developing your own film ideas and pre-production logistics. You will then go ‘on location’ camera exercises. The day will end with a short review of the day's shot footage to give you the chance to identify and remedy any practical or technical problems encountered during the day’s filming. There is the optional possibility to edit this footage later into a finished production piece.
