These practical Introduction to Digital Filmmaking training sessions can run from two hours, to a full day’s corporate team-building and film training exercise.
We cover all aspects of single camera production techniques, from story-boarding to sound and lighting principles. Training can be tailored for Drama or Documentary genres to suit individual requirements.
The full day’s course begins with a morning session that includes screenings of short film pieces. Participants discuss and begin to identify various filming styles and techniques. This is a chance to look at pre-produced film material with an insider’s eye, with an experienced filmmaker on hand to explain the step by step process of choosing and compiling footage. Participants will learn how shots are produced and assembled and how sound is used, identifying the elements that make up film production in studio and on-location situations.
The rest of the morning is practical and forms the majority of the session. After the introductory training, participants can engage in the real business of filmmaking. At this point you will try out the equipment and techniques for yourselves. You will have the opportunity to use camera equipment to practise filmmaking techniques, and the practicalities of using the equipment e.g. understanding the camera button functions and learning how to get the best from your own consumer handicams, incorporating our ‘hands on’ expert tuition in camera, sound and lighting.
By now you will be ready for a working lunch. This is a chance to get to know the other participants a little better, discuss the morning session and move on to storyboarding ideas for the afternoon. The afternoon is spent on developing your own film ideas and pre-production logistics. You will then go ‘on location’ camera exercises. During the afternoon session you will apply the practical skills you learned in the morning and gain further experience, applying all you have learnt throughout the day.
The day culminates in a plenary analysis, where participants pool their ideas and experiences. By the end of this workshop you will leave us with the skills, knowledge and confidence to start making your own productions!
