Heidi Yssennagger's first Solo exhibition explored issues relating to body image, identity and health, using her own body and it's failings as the focus for her work, as a direct response to traumatic experiences of ill health and hospitalisation.
Whilst initially acting as abreaction and personal therapy, the work also acted as a tool for communication. This is achieved by the introduction of philosophical debates within the work itself about the dichotomies of beauty and ugliness and strength and vulnerability.
Within the work were subtexts: psychoanalytic references to mental disturbances and imbalances and links into the notions of change; transition; decay; mortality; sexuality and sexual fantasy.
